Okta: Detectify App
The pre-built Detectify app in the Okta catalog is the fastest way to connect Okta. If it doesn’t fit your setup, for example because a script changes the Okta attributes Detectify reads, use a custom SAML app instead.
Before you start, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to enable SSO for your account.
Set Up the App
- In Okta, go to Applications, search for “Detectify” and add the application.
- Fill in the general settings and click Done.
- On the app’s Sign On tab, open the setup instructions. Copy the SAML issuer ID, the single sign-on URL and the X.509 certificate.
- Send these values to your CSM.
- In the app’s settings, make sure the Teams attribute starts with
detectify, and save.
The Entity ID, the ACS URL and the name attributes are already configured in the app.
Create Groups
In your Okta directory, create groups for the teams and access levels you want, for example:
detectify.admin.<team>detectify.user.<team>detectify.guest.<team>
Then assign members to each group. You don’t need to add the groups to the Detectify app: Detectify reads every group whose name starts with detectify from the login request. Users join the teams that are part of your company’s Detectify account, with the access level in the group name. See Teams and access levels for the group format and what happens when a user is in several groups.
New users sign in the first time through the Okta single sign-on URL. After that, they can also sign in from the Detectify login page by choosing Single Sign-On.
Common Issues
The first sign-in fails. A new user’s first sign-in must go through the Okta single sign-on URL. If the user already has a Detectify account with the same email address, see Troubleshooting.
A user didn’t join your company’s teams. The most common causes are:
- Misspelled attribute names in Okta
- Misspelled group names in Okta
- The user isn’t assigned to the groups
- The Teams attribute is set to something other than
detectify, for example a full group name such asdetectify.admin.MyTeam
Fix the errors and sign in again. If the issue persists, contact support@detectify.com.
